Just had a tour of the Molgol Rally workshop.

Who would have thought it was 100 yards from where I work.
Was invited in for tea and a chat and a tour of their offices and workshop.
They were very interested in the ratbike scene Smile

They also do convoys from Scotland right down down to Junktown, the Czech Postapocalyptic Festival, if any of you miserable lot want to join in.

wait

you pay them 700 quid
then you have to pay 1000 to a charity
none of the above includes ferries, visa fee etc

all for the privilege of driving an old shit heap to Mongolia

what's the f*cking point of that?

You miserable boring rancid old fart face!!

Well you have to raise the £1000 for charity so I guess if you're clever you get someone else to do that. Bikes are £300 And the rest is probably the same as doing a trip like that anyway which is not going to be anything like cheap.

I've been invited to their next party evening which is a win all round. Very Happy

Oh I can see some (rather pleasant) parallels to the ratbike world...

Except that we don't pay 700 just to go on a trip

Yep, it's big business and you can't fault that if it's successful.
There are currently 907 people in 333 teams doing the Mongol rally and each one has to also raise a minimum of £1000 charity money to qualify for entry which is hardly a bad thing in its self.
I know spending that sort of money on entry fees and stuff is not my thing but split between a team on a 1/3 global trip it's hardly an outrageous expense and most probably not much above what that sort of trip would cost on its own in ratbike land.
I'm not trying to promote it but some folks have deep pockets, it's just that a lot of us do this sort of shit vehicle thing just to get to work,
