June, being a Dzjerman, probably had a spare belt.

Re: the FAIL is strong this morning
twice?! over how many miles?
as i mentioned at the F'up i knew the belt was due soon, but i'm banking on the new one lasting several years....
and yes i did hitch a ride on the FAIL wagon (a right posh one, with a camera in the back so you could watch the bike on the dashboard entertainment screen unit thingy)

"3 Torques"- made me snigger.
It's a single- power pulses!
So 3 belts in 30,000 miles for the Buell.
I believe somewhere in the marketing blurb "it will last the lifetime of the bike" was mentioned- hahahaharofl etc
In reality I believe it snapped when the belt was worn and the suspension was at full extension.
It happened even after the factory solid-mounted guide wheel was mounted on an aftermarket sprung tensioner
This actually reminds me of exactly why I was thinking of fitting a chain drive conversion...
Moral of the story is to keep an eye on the condition of the belt and replace early as a precaution.
Weighing up the lack of maintenance but potential to just snap of a belt against the benefits of a chain which will need occasional adjustment and lubing- hmm...I know which I'd choose given the choice.

Re: the FAIL is strong this morning
i've had a chain snap ( whilst hammering across an intersection with oncoming traffic bearing down upon me ) and i'd just like to state it was one of the scariest motorbicycling experiences i've ever had
i hate chains, shaft drive for the non fail win

I've heard that's how glitter is made. A big shed full of K series final drives, with a machine subjecting them to a normal amount of wear and tear and regular service intervals

Fully enclosed chain... I just swapped the chain on my TR1 even though it has only done 116,000km as I couldn't get a new master-link for it anymore. The new chain was a whopping 65 Euros. Hope it'll last another 38 years.

You let me know if you ever fancy fancy making one of those enclosures up for my bike.

Re: the FAIL is strong this morning
Well it came factory on mine... maybe we should have a little chat as I might be able to source you a spare enclosure and if you're still running that KLE-thingy, I might be able to borrow one locally to see if it's doable at all.
(TR1s run a 630 chain, so the whole assembly is M-A-S-S-I-V-E.)

Oooo fancy.
If you haven't already it might be worth looking into machinery drive belts next time round if it's mega spendy. You'd need the pitch, width, tooth count, tooth shape etc etc (I've read that if you can't find the right width you can run a skinnier belt without issue).
Priced one up for the en500, even their lowest spec belt would far exceed the requirements of the 50hp bike and came in at about £40+VAT

Re: the FAIL is strong this morning
no such luck, checked with several suppiers and it's an odd size belt only available from BMW (despite being made by Gates)
the closest i found had same pitch, couple mm too wide and 24 teeth too long....

Re: the FAIL is strong this morning
Wow, if that's standard fitment it looks kinda narrow compared to the width of the pulley.

Re: the FAIL is strong this morning
thats so when the pulley wears you can run your wheel out of line with the bike so it wears on the good bit of pulley left over
