What is the difference between paint types?
I like to paint my bikes using paint from a pot rather than a spray can. There are many good reasons for this: You can get a thicker coat on, you get more pigment for your money, using a roller you avoid brushmarks, you don't have to re-coat as quickly.
There are several kinds of matt black paint in a pot:
Acrylic paint
Cellulose paint
Enamel paint
maybe there is more?
What do the differences mean to us as ratbike builders? I dropped chemistry at an early age so I am clueless to the differences.
And what type is spray paint in an aerosol can?
And where does hammerite fall in the classification?
I'd like to not paint this next bike Matt black. Am thinking of darker greys with greens an possibly blue in a futuristic distopian military look. So I'm thinking of mixing paint colours before applying with my trusty roller. Does certain paint types support mixing?

I like the camo on those tanks, its a change from endless matt black bikes, which type of paint does one need to be able to mix and achieve those colours?

Re: What is the difference between paint types?
you're taking this all far to seriously
just use whatever paint is the approx. colour you want your bike to be, and start painting!

TBH the only consideration I take into account is price. Cheapest wins.

I'm still curious as to the difference between acrylic, enamel and cellulose paints.
That doesn't mean I'd use them properly, but I would like to at least know.

I think its mostly the type of thinner used with the paint when it comes to single pack paint. paint in an arosol will usually be acrilic. Hammerite Im sure is an enamal.
personally Id go for acrilic paint

black, white and blues will give you those shades mixed in approximate ratios

Don't know the differences between the types of paint, just know they usually don't mix
