Where does one buy a diode? Maplins were fkn useless
As usual I'm pissing about with bike electrics.
I need a diode which can go between headlamps, maximum current it will take is 10 amps, on a 12volt system.
I asked for this in Maplin, only to receive a blank stare from 3 of their staff.
Where does one go to for such a product, and what would it be called?

you buy them at Maplins, preferrably one staffed by non-idiots
or on ebay
or send me you address, and i post you a couple
however i must also question the wisdom of placing a diode "between headlamps"?

These are my headlamps:

The left one, with a cage on the front, is a single filament bulb, so it is wired into the low beam circuit.
The right headlight has dip/main and a pilot light. When on low beam both this and the single filament light are illuminated.
I want to have the single filament light on regardless of whether the other light is on low beam or high beam. At low beam it isn't a problem, its wired that way now. What I want to do is take a power supply from the high beam circuit to feed the single filament light. But if I do that, on low beam power would flow the other way back to the other headlight and light the high beam as well as the low beam.
I reckon a diode in that power supply would correct that problem. On high beam I would have both the single filament light plus high beam of the other light on. Which would be great if I'm on country roads at night.
Spotarama, do you recognise that single filament light? you gave me it.

right, that would actually work
and saves arsing about with a relay
unless your wiring catches on fire from the extra load...
anyway if you wanta couple of diodes just pm me your address, i have a strip of at least 25 somewhere

I knew that would come in useful one day, I think it came off hard rubbish with some Honda and bmw parts. I think it might be off a bmw trailie or something
hope to get more work done on the Honda trailbike (the one I sent you the pic of upside down after Ășnloading' it off the trailer) this weekend, going to do more on the bodywork (involves scraping 20 odd years of decomposed plastic down to useable paintable surface) and see if I've got cables and controls that fit with the monster 70s trailbike bars its got on.
I've adapted your headlight brackets to fit so sorting the wiring will be next for those
