where can i get cheap exhaust parts?

unfortunatley, the mental as fuck looking exhaust on the xj9 is dying badly, and is warped to the extent that it keeps blowing header gaskets. Im not sure if I can patch it through the next MOT so I was thinking of making a new one (on the basis that replacement xj9f exhaust systems are rocking horse shit)


Anyone know where I can get downpipes and maybe a few other bits and then I can try and make my own full system?

Having done it from scratch, I'd suggest getting a similar 4-1 system and bodging that on. I'd guess a gt750/zephyr to have a similar port layout (although they may be equally rocking horse shit)

failing that, buy some bends off ebay and get some spare wire for the welder!

Aye that was what i was hoping. I think i could do a complete up front style one if i can just find some suitable headers

mmh. I think I'd try to score a zephyr 750 one (or 4-1 with similar geometry, I think a divvie has too much lean to work for you) and start there personally.

bandit 6? cbr6/9? that welder will do stainless btw, you just need to get the right wire

having had a bit of a look around most modern (bandit or newer tbh) stuff has downpipes too large diameter. Im now hunting for a cheap set of pipes off something that uses a 39mm gasket so yam wise its pretty much the xj series, fj11 and fj12. none of which are quite in my price range for cheapskatery on ebay right now.


Anyone know any honda/suzuki/kwak with 39mm exhaust gaskets? Then I can cross reference the part number and find out pretty much all of the same diameter pipes.

I am a "tad" busy at the moment, but if I don't forget about it, I think I still have some GPZ900(-ish) downtubes kicking about that may fit the bill. And maybe some old Z1000J.

nice stainless bends and collectors are silly money. like the othere said a set of headers off something similar might be your best bet. I'm popping in on a mate who has the hi-level book in his workshop I'll see what uses 39mm gaskets and let you know.

All sorted now (well at least the parts side of it) I managed to blag a cheap enough set of maxim headers that use the same exhaust gasket so they will be on the way and i'll chop and weld to suit and make the rest of a system up.
